Message:Hi Julie~ Just wanted to give you an update on Rosie as we approach her 1st full year with us. What an amazing, dear, loving, funny, fun, gentle, devoted girl she is!! Our life is so much richer for her presence in it. And she and little sweetheart Ruby, the little girl our daughter, Katie, adopted from BB back in Dec. are THE best of friends and adore each other--I've never seen such a bond. So thank you, thank you, thank you for all you do to give these dear dogs the loving homes they so deserve. Sara Hessler p.s. Please pass this along to Rosie's foster mom.

Liberty is doing awesome and thinks that our chocolate lab is her mom. It's kind of convenient for her that her mom's name was Lily Bay and our chocolate lab is named Lily. She has been amazing since we had her, she has never had an accident in her crate and had maybe 5 accidents in the house before she was completely potty trained. Sadly most of the accidents were from a slight UT infection. I don't know what the connection was but she was pretty thin when we got her and Jenny had mentioned feeding and diarhea issues with her. After she had the antibiotics for the UT infection the diarhea issues disappeared and she started putting on weight. Our vets commented on how we were very lucky to find such a responsible rescue that took such good care of the dogs. They said that it is unheard of for them to see a rescue pup that had been to the vets so many times before she was adopted out. Like I told Jenny, your hard work is not going unnoticed!

hi julie, thought I'dlet you know how Calvin is doing. GREAT!He gained 7 pounds in 2 weeks and is now about 18 pounds. with his pinkish belly, large appetite, and little happy grunting noises he makes when he greets you we tease he is part pig!! he is big enough now to really be able to wrestle with our other dog,and smart enough to play gently with the kitten or feel her wrath!!!He has yet to meet a person he does not instantly reduce to a puddle of affection and baby talk...he would make a grea t dog for visiting old folks homes. oh,and hes super easy to train-he sits nicely for a biscuit and a firm command and is about halfway house trained. if it would stay above freezing for a few days we could probably finish the job,but its been cold...worse for you I'm sure!! Thanks again for all your hard work for the dogs! We love having Calvin in our family.

Hello Julie!

Just wanted to update you on Sam. We recently went to the vets and got a clean bill of health! He is an absolute nutcase haha he is sooo much fun to have around! We love him to death!!!! We snuggle the whole night through, he has put on 2 lbs which we are happy about. He looks great and gets two, hour long walks daily in the woods, I think he feels like a wolf because we let him off leash and he just runs! He is sooo speedy! He loves the beach though hates the water and he wears a little coat outside because our little Georgia boy is not used to this harsh New England climate, he shivers! its so sad.

Well although we love our new addition he is not so photogenic. HA. here are some photos of him anyways!

Thanks for everything. We will keep you updated!

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 2 years. We had even already decided that if we were to ever have a boy his name would be Indigo. I had a habit of looking at Petfinder.com all of the time, but we both felt apprehensive about the commitment it takes to adopt a dog. One day this one pup just caught my eye. I have heard it said that your pet finds you...I think he found me because I was attracted to his photo immediately. When I took a closer look, I saw that his name was...INDIGO! We went to meet him the next day and he came home with us. Nobody had inquired about him yet, but after we took him, his foster mom had about 5 inquiries.
I can not even imagine my life without my dog, Indigo. He is the most gentle, most hilarious, most beautiful soul I have ever encountered.
Now, we are looking on Petfinder.com again to bring him a brother or sister!
ADOPT A DOG! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

Oh my gosh, he is a dream!!! We love him to death and already feel like he has been with us forever! Sam fits right in with the family. Our Maine Coon cat is giving him a pretty rude sounding hiss every once in a while, but he is already playing with out younger cat, Ollie. He sleeps like a log in my bed and he is a jolly, adorable little guy that just wants to be everyones friend! Yesterday we took him to the beach for a nice long stroll and he was nearly jumping out of his skin with excitement! I can not say enough good things about him, we love him to pieces! His scars are all healed and he is now just a ball of energy!

So far, she has had an amazing summer, between car rides to the beach and canoeing on the Saco river. She absolutely is the best!!! Words can not describe how much our family loves her, especially me. I try to take her everywhere I go, even to lacrosse practices, which she loves, because she hangs out with the guys lax team while they wait for their practice to start after us. Everyone knows Molly and she is such a sociable dog. Every now and again I treat her by going out for ice cream. She gets the teeny tiny kiddie vanilla softserve cone.
It is always fun to take her out in public, we get so many compliments especailly at the beach. Kids are always asking to pet her and she loves it! She also loves the waves and enjoys running into them, but does not like it when the big ones knock her over.
Molly has gotten very used to out routine at home, especailly our mornings. We almost always wake up at 7:30 and go out on the front porch for coffe and the morning sprint around the yard. Later in the afternoon, she enjoys chasing the kids around and laying in the shade while we play croquet. One of her favorite things to do in the yard is lay in her kiddie swimming pool.

Well that is all that I can think of for now.
Hi Julie!

Just wanted to give you an update on the little girl (named Poet, by the way, by the three "macho" men in the house -- not sure if I mentioned that before!)

She's doing so well. She's such a good puppy, it's almost hard to believe sometimes. She's a permanent fixture at our ankles, she sleeps through the night, and when she needs to go out, she lets us know by either waking us up or barking and leading us to the back door. She knows some basic commands (sit, stay, heel, "cross" for when it's okay to cross the street) and learns so quickly. I can't wait to see what we'll be able to teach her!

She discovered that she LOVES swimming. This is new for me, all of my Shelties have always hated the water. Tim bought her a small kiddie pool, and she is constantly jumping around in it. With the black coat, she looks like a seal. She loves the beach, and she and Tim go swimming in the ocean -- she doggie paddles away! She's so much fun. We are in LOVE.

She had her second puppy shots and worm testing a couple of weeks ago and we'll do the third round and the Lyme and rabies shots in August. We weigh her regularly -- she was 8 lbs. in the second week of July, and as of yesterday she is up to 15.7 lbs!!

Here's a video Tim put together recently of the puppy discovering her tail:

Hi Julie,

I meant to write you last night, but as you can imagine I was not spending much time in front of my computer. Julie, she is AMAZING. Such a great dog!! We had a wonderful first day/night together. She settled down right on my lap in the car, has been so attentive and well-behaved...so far she seems to show no signs of nervousness or depression. She is really an amazing dog! I can't thank you enough- I am so looking forward to our life together.

Please let Mariahh know that she is doing very well and thank her so much, as I expect much of her good-nature comes from the care she has given her. She did sleep in bed with me last night- such a cuddle bug...and woke up this morning "smiled" and rolled over with her tummy showing- I think she likes it scratched...I picked up lots of supplies at the pet store yesterday. Thanks for the tip on the parmsean cheese - she really prefers it. She ate this morning and we had a nice walk already.

About her name, I do intend to change it, but the name I like is two syllables and to be honest, she already responds to it. I guess that is likely has to do with the sound of a "call" voice and the two syllables. I want to name her Whisky- for her whiskers and also for her (now inherited) irish heritage...Julie, I cannot thank you enough- she is such a wonderful dog and I could not be happier. I assure you she will be very very well taken care of and has entered a loving happy home.

It was so nice to meet you and Mariahh yeseterday - was a bit of a whirlwind of a day for me! I know it sounds silly but this morning I woke up before she did and I was just looking at her thinking- wow I cant beleive this beautiful pup is mine!!! I will def send you lots of pictures once I can.

Thank you again so much, and hope you all had a nice day.

I think I fell in love at first glance when I saw her adorable little face peeking out from my computer screen. Now, after her first adoption failed, she’s all mine and I feel blessed to have her.

Before I went to pick her up I went shopping. You would have thought I was having a new baby, instead of getting a puppy. I agonized over whether to buy her a halter or a collar. Can you believe I bought both? Then the leash had to be just right. She’s small - only six and one half pounds, so it had to be lightweight. Should it be a regular leash or retractable? Retractable I decided. Then there was the crate and the toys to pick out. They all, of course, needed to be small. The cutest of the toys I purchased was a fuzzy, miniature teddy bear that squeaks. I hoped she’d like it as much as I did. I bough, a five pound bag of dog food as well. Of course it had to have little miniature bits to suit her size and only the best would do.

When we drove about twenty minutes north to pick her up I was antsy and nervous and my husband laughed at me. But then he admitted that he had been nervous and excited as well when he had gone to pick up his dog two years ago. Together we sat in the parking lot waiting for her delivery. The lady was late and I grew more anxious for fear we might have missed each other somehow, so I phoned her to reassure myself that everything was still “a go”, which it was.

Finally they drove their green van into the parking lot as promised. I was dying to see the little bundle of fur, but at first only the lady, Julie, exited the van. We visited for a few minutes then finally, after controlled anxiety on my part, her two children got out of the van with a little, short-haired, white dog squirming in the five year old girl’s arms. The puppy was pert and cute with brown markings around her face and rump. When I finally got to hold her she snuggled right up to me and I felt like I was in heaven. After all the business parts of the transaction were taken care of, we all bundled ourselves into our respective vehicles and left - they to Olive Garden for dinner, and my husband and I to return home with my new treasure. This time my husband drove while I cuddled my precious. little buddy in my lap.

Introducing her to her big brother, Mike, a large black lab who was waiting for her at home, was a bit tense. He was so big, about eighty pounds, and she was so small. Would he welcome her? Would she be safe with him? At first glance she was very leery of this large creature who wanted to check her out and to lick her all over. She came running to be picked up. After a few minutes however, Mike settled down a bit and she left my lap to go sit on the couch. The two canines, very much a contrast both in size and color, eyed each other, then slowly and tentatively became acquainted. Before the hour was up, they were playing joyfully and sharing a large, yellow and orange, plush, stuffed bone which Mike had tentatively offered to her. Eventually they were playing tug of war with the bone. Every once in a while the little tease would get up to run swiftly in, under, and around everything in sight while Mike gave chase. You could sense his frustration when her small size allowed her to get behind a chair or some other piece of furniture where he could see, but not reach her. Then, when he’d just about given up hope of being able to play with her for a while, she would come darting out to taunt him and the game would begin again. She certainly had lost her fear.

Everywhere we’d go, young and old alike wanted to see and to pet her. People had so many questions. How old was she? Where had I gotten her? Really? I got her from an animal rescue? How did I find her? While I tried to answer, she just reveled in the attention - squirming and giving kisses whenever she had the chance. No one seemed to mind that her kisses were the wet variety.

Her initial visit to the beach was truly an adventure for us both. She was obviously on overload and couldn’t decide what to focus on first. She would run energetically, then stop and tense, looking first one way and then another, tail out straight and one front foot in the air, before taking off again to happily explore. She pranced along the shore line, head and tail held high. At first she was a bit unsure of those waves that were rolling in -seeming to chase her, but it wasn’t long before she decided that they, just like Mike, were relatively safe. Then she forgot all about them when she saw some little shore birds she thought were there just for her to chase and play with. I’m sure she was disappointed when, just as she reached the end of her leash and came to an abrupt stop, the birds safely flew away. Next it was on to a clam shell which she picked up and proudly carried a ways. When she realized that her big brother was having fun chasing and retrieving a dummy which was being thrown out into the ocean, the clam shell was dropped and quickly forgotten. She took off after the dummy and might actually have gotten it if she hadn’t been tethered. It would have been fun to have seen what she would have done if she was off the leash, but she hadn’t yet proven that she could really be trusted not to take off, so for her own safety, we kept her controlled.

This little bundle of love is a delight. She is cute, funny, and obviously smart. It was such fun to watch her hide Mike’s rawhide chew behind a pillow in the chair, carefully patting the pillow back in place once the deed was done. She is part Chihuahua and part Jack Russell Terrier, but to me she is pure sunshine; hence her name, Solana, which means sunshine in Spanish. She is at my feet, where she has wrapped herself up in a blanket, as I write. She doesn’t purr like a cat, but it is obvious that she is very happy and contented and so am I. I will never again question the idea of “love at first sight”.

Here are some pictures of Prescott! The one in the pool is the most recent! He gets really warm on hot days so we got him a little pool and he loves it! He is really well behaved, good off the leash around the yard and at the dog park, very good with all other people and animals, he is the most passive dog ever!

He knows about 10-15 commands and is crazy about food! Really easy to train with treats! He is really smart and we have done two six week sessions of puppy class with him, I am glad we did because he can be a bit defiant at times when he is not getting his own way. He is super mellow for a puppy and we are both really happy he is part of our family!!

Thanks again!

Boomer is staying here in Dresden and is proving to be a friendly, sweet "outdoor" dog. He really enjoys one on one attention and loves his "people." He is possessive of his space and tends to be alpha male in his interaction with other dogs. Boomer is certainly a good guard dog but does not act overly aggressive toward strangers. He would not do well in a household with two alpha males but does interact nicely with our older female dog who is unshakeable and non-aggressive. Boomer enjoys car rides, sleeps all night (on our bedroom rug!) and is house-trained. He is a great companion dog and will make someone a wonderful pet!
